ESPN TC
The ESPN Tournament Challenge is a bracket game that allows fans to predict how the NCAA Basketball tournament will unfold. Millions of fans around the country participate each year with their friends and family to create the best bracket and win bragging rights.
Our goal was to update the code base and design language. The challenge we faced with the legacy product was that it operated on outdated code, making it difficult to implement the updates our fans wanted. Some key criticisms from our sports fans included issues with quickly identifying their picks and determining whether they were correct at a glance. The older version relied heavily on color to convey this information, which created problems for individuals with impaired eyesight. Additionally, from a business perspective, there was no straightforward way to adapt the bracket games for different sports.
The team aimed to redesign and enhance our mini-games platform by adding a Tournament challenge feature. This addition will enable us to white-label our bracket experience, allowing us to create customized sports brackets. I was tasked with leading the design on the complete codebase and design language update for both Men's and Women's Tournament Challenge.
